Open the PDF in Acrobat and use File > Document Properties (or Ctrl D) and then Initial View. Set to open in fit page view.
The view will vary slightly in browsers depending on how many toolbars etc the user has displayed. For copy to be read in a browser I always design the page in landscape and set fit page. You will find newsletter PDF publishers are increasingly using landscape.
Be aware that some users have their browsers set to automatically download a PDF and not display in a browser.
You cannot test the font embedding on your own system because Acrobat or the Reader will look for a missing font on your system. The most likely cause of non-embedding, if you have the correct settings, is that one or more fonts is not licensed for embedding. I have found that to be true of some Adobe fonts. Presumably special permission is needed or embedding is completely excluded.

Does anyone know of a quick and easy way to check on font permissions? Judy

That will be defined in the EULA, or defined in the PDF under properties > fonts...embed and subset or not
Remember to turn on or off, dependant on req's 'use local fonts' in Acrobat prefs so that Acrobat either calls on a system font for a font that's not embed or not. --

Merv, thanks for the feedback. >>>> Open the PDF in Acrobat and use File > Document Properties (or Ctrl D) and then Initial View. Set to open in fit page view.

I create many PDFs for conferences as well as newsletters. I always set document properties to "full page" and initial view to page and bookmarks. My question has more to deal with differences if the PDF is downloaded versus viewing in a browser. Can there be any differences in what is viewed between the two methods?
>>>> You cannot test the font embedding on your own system because Acrobat or the Reader will look for a missing font on your system. I also always embed or subset fonts. I understand there may be some fonts that won't permit embedding but as long as they are embedded why would one system work and not the other? The problem was one of my systems gets the font error message when viewed in the IE 8 browser and the other doesn't. The other system is IE 7 but that's the one that works. Both systems are PC, XP SP3. I do use a font manager but that shouldn't affect viewing PDFs if all fonts are embedded.
Regards, Glenn
