[FMPro] Filemaker 11 Auto formatting - Cut the Crop
Hi.
I've read that in Filemaker Pro 11, everything is controllable, right down to that "irritating text wrap feature" that now apparently is off by default, yet there seems no way to turn it back on. Was this a bug in v3? I'm updating, now, finally, to v4, so if that's the issue, then it's solved. Otherwise, it seems to be in a gray eyed area of the object inspector called "Data Formatting". I can see it there. Format: Crop to Frame but I can't change it!!! Then I read that you can't format data for text fields...so...I have to make it a number in order to successfully turn on word wrap?!? Really?!?
I just checked in my updated version. Now I can't even see the "Data Formatting: Format: Crop to Frame". It just says "No options available".
How do I get my text wrap back?

I'm not sure what the irritating text wrap feature is or was. In early versions of FM Pro, to fix the right margin of a text area it was necessary to stretch its right border. Is that what you mean? If so, that went away several versions ago. The right margin of a text area is now its right border, whether it's been stretched or not. If you set On the Text Ruler in the View menu, whilst editing text or field contents you can adjust margins and set tabs.
In the Inspector / Data / Data Formatting, the four sets of controls are for formatting numbers, dates, times and images.
Does that answer the question for you?

See what I mean? How barbaric. I'm not putting in those paragraph breaks, myself. That's how Filemaker is wrapping! Right in the middle of a word!
I thought it used to keep words together.

I've never seen that. What computer are you using? Maybe something is wrong with your language settings, corrupt preference file, etc. You can always trash the preference file of FIleMaker. Rather rename it to .backup, so if it doesn’t help you can restore it.
But the issue is certainly not within the app itself.

It sound to me like the file's setting under File>File Options>Text for "Use Roman Language line-breaking" is OFF. That can cause word/line breaks to look unusual.
Take a look and let us know if that fixes it.

That's consoling. My client hasn't complained so maybe it's only happening on my computer. I've seen Filemaker do some pretty wacky stuff with font corruptions.
